Supported accommodation is not just general social housing; it is designed specifically for individuals who face barriers to living independently or who need guidance to manage their day-to-day tenancy obligations.

Core Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for placement in Bsafe Housing properties across Birmingham, an applicant typically must meet the following baseline conditions:

• Age: Must be aged 18 or older.
• Benefit Status: Must be in receipt of (or eligible for) qualifying welfare benefits such as Universal Credit, Personal Independence Payment (PIP), ESA, or standard legacy benefits.
• Identified Support Need: Must require identifiable care, support, or supervision (e.g. budgeting difficulties, recovering from homelessness, mental health support needs, or settling into independent life).
• Right to Reside: Must hold lawful status to reside in the United Kingdom and claim public funds.

Who is Supported Housing Not Suitable For?

Supported exempt accommodation is semi-independent living with visiting key-worker support. It is not a 24-hour nursing home, residential medical care facility, or secure psychiatric unit. Residents must be capable of independent daily activities (such as personal hygiene and taking their own medication).
